The CBA was founded in 2018, but the seeds of a dream had been sown since 1999. In August of that distant year, Danielle Medeiros gave her first Portuguese lessons to a small group of children she called Projeto Brasil. This initiative has continued to evolve, with the development and improvement of the methodologies used and the continuous increase in the number of students.
When Dani teamed up with Ana “Bacana” Teixeira and Ana Tereza Bobbio to create the CBA, a major goal was set: to have a headquarters capable of bringing together all the educational activities and the main cultural initiatives that would emerge over time.
In December 2023, that great goal was realized, with the lease of the building at 620 N Rd.
There are 12,000 sq ft of usable area. On the second floor there are six classrooms which, from Monday to Friday, host the functions of the new bilingual pre-school, the Bilingual Minds Learning Center; and, on Saturdays, they are part of the Brazil Project activities (which occupy the entire building on that day). On the second floor, the rooms are separated by sliding walls, which allow for different space configurations, including an auditorium with a capacity of up to 130 seats. These spaces can be used for lectures, conferences, exhibitions, meetings and bazaars.
With the new building, another effect of the great dream: the materialization of the Brazilian American Cultural Center, where a calendar of events linked to Brazilian culture can be expanded, with initiatives linked to music, literature, cinema, plastic arts, history, dance, etc; and activities to support the Brazilian community, such as personal and professional development courses. The new building will also house the new library, with more than 3,000 books for readers of all ages.
Any unused areas can be rented out to people in the community interested in having comfortable, high-quality spaces for meetings, lectures and events.
