Guilherme Torres, “Mestre Pinga Fogo”, is from the city of Taubaté, SP. He started capoeira in 1980. In 2000 he received a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from the University of Taubaté (UNITAU). In September 2003 he moved to the state of Connecticut, USA, where he lived for 10 years teaching capoeira and performing in schools, universities, libraries and casinos all over the country.
In 2013, he moved to Austin, TX, where he now lives with his family.
Guilherme has been teaching capoeira to children and adults for over 20 years. His classes are always very diversified, as he believes that capoeira is much more than just standing “upside down”, so his classes are divided into practice, theory and musicality.
His partnership with Projeto Brasil has been a great experience, because through the art of capoeira, he is able to teach the children about Brazilian culture, Portuguese language, traditional songs, dances and history in a playful and fun way. Capoeira classes are integrated into the Saturday classes.
