Emergency Contact

One of the most memorable moments I spent when we left Brazil, happened days after our arrival. I went to fill out the children's file at the new school and realized that I had no one to put in as an "emergency contact". And to top it off, my husband is a pilot. At that moment I realized how lonely my journey as an expatriate mother would be.

Loneliness is a feeling that makes a person feel a profound sense of emptiness and isolation. I could mention many challenges that the expatriate mother faces: cultural shock, lack of support network, accumulation of functions ... But without a doubt loneliness is what most accompanies us.

Not always sharing this anguish with those who stayed in Brazil was an option, it was difficult for people to understand why I was so sad about the choice I had made myself. Only those who go through this know!

I spent many sleepless nights, thinking, "But what did I do with my life ?!"

“Scrolling” the phone, looking at the ceiling. And then, I enrolled in the faculty of psychology. I decided to gather all the material I could to help expatriate mothers like us.

If you feel that way too, if sometimes you get a little lost, if you feel like you still don't belong where you are, join me.

My daughter encouraged me to do an Instagram (@ivyfleming_). Our class started with four moms, now we are a little bit more… 🙂

It will be a joy to have a virtual friend who goes through the same things and to be able to exchange information, share dreams and frustrations.
